Special January closure...and more bamboo!

Guess who's finished and blocked?! That's right, Clapotis. Seriously, if you haven't tried this one yet, I recommend it. It's got a lulling repetitiveness to it, but every time you get to Row 8 and get to unravel the stitches it's so thrilling!

This one uses a strand of my favorite fiber that we carry in the shop -- bamboo. Not only is bamboo astoundingly soft and sleek, but it's also a sustainable fiber, grown without any pesticides or chemicals. We just got a big order in with refills on our most popular colors, as well as four brand new variegated colorways. So many possibilities!

***Special January Closure***
Please note that next week, Yarnia will be CLOSED on Thursday, January 29, and Friday, January 30 for a special family event. We're very sorry for the inconvenience but will be open regular hours for the remainder of the weekend, and hope you'll come visit us then!

Obama-rama

While I sometimes miss being on the same timetable as the rest of society, I really actually love having a Monday-Tuesday weekend instead of the traditional Saturday-Sunday...and yesterday was definitely testament to that.

Tuesdays are my catch-up days, when I finally have time to go grocery shopping, see my wonderful acupuncturist, and play in my kitchen. But this Tuesday morning, I traded in streaming NPR and cleanup chores for the lulling cadence of Obama's voice, and got to feel like I was actually part of the world, watching the inaugural address live from my living room, enjoying my coffee and knitting a dish towel, admittedly, in my pajamas.

Then I got to enjoy the endless commentary about it all throughout the day, while I did my laundry, checked on my new sprouts, and made curried potato soup (I know, who ever thought of that, right? The key ingredients actually ended up being cauliflower, and some homemade yogurt!). Given that this was probably the first time I've turned on my TV since election night, Obama now seems to have a distinct presence in my new living room.

So, in concert with all my fellow small-time retail owners out there, I'm giving a thumbs-up to the Monday/Tuesday weekend. Plus, you all seem to like buying yarn on Sundays!

New Year, New Projects

On the horizon, at least. We'll see how long this lasts, but I'm making an effort to finish up old works-in-progress before beginning anything new, especially in anticipation of four new colorways of variegated bamboo which are on their way next week!

Here's what's tiding me over for the time being...

I taught myself how to knit Continental about a month ago, but wary of creating an obvious tension disparity mid-project, I decided to pick something straightforward, monotonous, and with no purling to give myself some practice. Thus, bamboo kneesocks were born.

Inspired by a customer who voraciously churns through crocheted hats at an astounding rate, I opted for my hook over the needles on this one, and finished it in one night of chatting on my dad's couch up in Seattle

Dropping stitches on purpose is so much fun!!!
