Music & Magazines
Those of you who came by the shop on Saturday got to see a stellar performance by singer/songwriter Barry Ross outside the front door. Here he is warming up...

Division / Clinton Street Fair This Weekend
One of the best things about Portland summers are all the great street fairs happening around the city...and this time of year, it seems like there's one every weekend!
This weekend we've got it in our very own neighborhood, for the Division/Clinton Street Fair, happening this Saturday, July 26! Come check out the live music, sidewalk sales, food, and other neighborhood festivities. We'll still be here in the shop (keeping it simple...and cool!), but with a special musical guest in the parking lot out front...
And to celebrate summer knitting, we'll be having a sale on all our cotton, linen, and hemp fibers -- 10% off! So break out your ideas for skirts, tanks, and lightweight wraps. We've got a bunch of great pattern books and magazines here for reference and inspiration, and can help walk you through some of the structural fundamentals of the samples we have up here at the shop.

Southeast Examiner!
Those of you who live in the Southeast may have already spotted this, but Yarnia's got a two-page writeup in this month's Southeast Examiner! Be sure to grab yourself a copy, or click on the images below to enlarge and read it straight off the screen.

Also, keep an eye out for a new section soon to be added to the online store -- the bargain shelf! These one-of-a-kind blends are made from fibers that we've run out of and don't restock regularly, so once they're gone, they're gone. And, by popular request, the online store will soon also be carrying blends made from more high-end fibers such as bamboo, alpaca, and silk blends. Stay tuned!

Summer In The City
As many of you may already know, we've instituted our new summer hours here at Yarnia, and I can't imagine a better way to spend the time off than to get to show off the city to two of the most special people in my life. This weekend, in celebration of Canada Day, my friends Michael and Erin drove down from B.C. and we got to spend four glorious days cavorting around the city.

We hit up every breakfast joint in the city, biked all over town, watched the Mississippi Spelling Bee, drank some fabulous duty free scotch, celebrated warm summer nights out in the backyard, and Erin even learned how to crochet! She dreamed up a great little dark brown and yellow wool blend to make her first scarf out of too, might I add.
My only regret is that they weren't able to stay one extra night, which would have let their trip down to PDX intersect with the official release party for The Penny Jam. That's right, tonight at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison Street, 9 p.m., free!), you can see all ten episodes comprising volume one of The Penny Jam, the final episode of which features Eric John Kaiser performing in our very own little yarn shop under the stairs. Come check it out!
Or, if you can't make it in person, here's the video podcast!
Oh, and yes, we will be open on the 4th of July...and we have air conditioning!
